American Jobs move to MEXICO

Budget Truck rental and car rental uses a call center in Mexico City which means American jobs are gone and we are paying money to people that are not even in this country. Why would any one want to do business with a company that sends jobs to other countries? This is a shame that we could contiue to do business with such a company. It is time to take back American jobs and get people back to work. Funny if all the execitive jobs went to Mexico and they lost their jobs, it would not happen I am sure of that.

Mechanically Unsafe Truck Rented

I rented a truck to do a long distance move. Ran fine for the first 8 or 9 hours then the oil pressure started going haywire, truck lost power, max speed was reduced and going up INCLINES (not even hills) on the highway would drop to 20-30 MPH. Called Budget was told it needed to be looked at, stranded in a parking lot for over 4 hours in 105 degree temps, to be told it was a diesel engine thing. A customer service rep told me over the phone that when I dropped the truck off I would be given a refund. Next day ran fine for about 2 hours then started doing all the same things again. It took us 3 hours longer then it should have that day to arrive where we were going due to the slow speeds, not to mention the massive amount of fuel being consumed. To sum it up, due to the delays I had to spend almost $1,000 in hotels, hiring unloaders, wasted plane fare etc. Called Budget to be told that the problems were my fault as I didn't know how to drive. Small refund offered and wanted me to agree that it was a fair compensation and I should be thankful my family was safe. Now, if not knowing how to drive a truck would result in the truck having intermittent problems that only start after driving for several hours, why wasn't I told this could happen ? Why was I not given instructions on proper driving techniques? What could I have been not been doing for hours at a time that I all of a sudden changed and could not change back that resulted in the oil pressure of the truck changing or the truck losing power? Why would the Budget Roadside consultant tell me that it was not normal and needed to be looked at if it wasn't ? The questions are rhetorical .... there is a problem with that truck, my family was placed in unsafe situations and now Budget will not take responsibility and is placing the blame on me.

Budget - doesn't keep their word

I was told on the phone the price to rent a truck would be 111 unlimited miles if I returned it to another dealer. When I went in, the cost was exactly what I was told on the phone (plus tax, etc.) told to sign about insurance and damage, given the keys and off I went. I returned the truck and then found out it DIDN'T have unlimited miles on it and had to pay another 112! The returning dealer said to call customer service, customer service said to call the dealer I rented from, the dealer I rented from said they could do nothing, since it had been turned in and to call customer service. Since the code on the contract didn't designate unlimited miles I'm hosed! Had I known I was going to get screwed I would have used another company!

Budget Truck Rental-Poughkeepsie, NY 12601

I chose this company over U-Haul because their per day charge was cheaper, per mileage charge cheaper and they were a few miles closer to my location. I booked it online without a problem approx. 3 weeks before my move day. I showed up at their store to pick up my truck about 10-15 minutes earlier than my reservation (10am) with my 'helpers' in tow. When I provided my reservation # to the clerk inside, she told me "Oh, I'm so sorry! Nobody called you?" then proceeded to tell me "we had to move your reservation to our other Poughkeepsie location, someone should have called you about this yesterday...we don't have a truck for you." At which point I told her when I made my reservation, nobody called me, their switching the location of my reservation completely defeated the purpose in booking with them given they charge per mile! I didn't want to pay out the *** to move when I lived a mile from their location and was moving only 2 miles from that house to the next. She stated again that they didn't have a truck. One of my 'movers' decided to remind her that there was 4 trucks sitting in their parking lot at that moment and she can either give us one of those or provide the truck at the other location for free. At that point she went outside to talk on the phone! When she returned she provided one of the trucks in their lot. Before leaving the lot we noted the mileage on the odometer and the fuel level (just under full). We returned the truck 4 hours later with an added 6 miles, replaced the gallon of gas used, and not so much as a scrap of paper left behind. This move according to the price I booked and mileage used should have cost approx. $27 prior to tax. Two weeks later I see they charged me $80!!!!!!!!!! They have yet to provide an adequate reason, refund or anything for the additional $50. New York taxes are NOT that high. Had I anticipated any of the *** I dealt with by choosing their unprofessional company I would have just gone with U-Haul. Yeah, they cost more but I still would've paid less then I ended up being billed for. I WILL NEVER RETURN TO THEM FOR ANY REASON AND I HAVE MORE THAN SPREAD THE WORD ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. My next step will be to talk to my bank about my options and place a formal complaint with BBB.

Never use Budget Rental trucks or cars!

Updated by user May 21, 2012

OK, I now officially take back a lot of the angry comments about Budget. I spoke with their Customer Support, and while I can\'t say the person was the friendliest person I\'ve spoken to, he did arrange for a refund of ~$70. I got the impression that I was not the first to complaint about a bloated bill, because he was pretty quick to offer the refund.

I will not likely use their services again, but at least they worked with me to resolve this dispute.

Original review Apr 18, 2012
My itinerary from our travel agency said that the Budget car should have been $24.99 a day, for a total of ~$87 plus any additional charges, fees, and taxes. Say, ~$100+ total. My bill? $227! They charged me for the fuel service ($14), even though I declined it and said I'd fill it up myself (which I did). An agent called them for me, and they told her that "if you drive less than 35 miles you have to show them the receipt for the gas you bought or they will charge for the fuel service". I had the receipt in my pocket, but they didn't ask for it. An unexplained fee of 11.11% ($20). They said that comprehensive insurance was "$14 a day", and I wouldn't be responsible for anything, no matter who was at fault. Since this was Boston, I said OK. So I was charged $14 a day, PLUS ANOTHER $52! They told my agent that "they don't know where I got the idea that the full insurance package was $14, that's only one part of it". The REAL charge includes the additional $52. Something called a "CUST FAC CHG" of $12. "RSN" fee? = $12 I'm sure this is all covered in the fine print of their contract, but beware!

Budget Truck Rental (BHC) is a scam

Budget Rental Trucks, and more specifically the one located in Bullhead City, AZ are scammers. Rented a 16" truck and realized it would not be big enough. Called Budget BHC to see if they had a larger one we could trade for. Was told they didn't and didn't rent trailers and to call UHaul to see about renting a trailer. Once everything was loaded we noticed the brake lights on the truck were not working. Repairman came out after 3 hours and said that the fuse box was not giving power, even without the UHaul trailer on the truck and that it was an aftermarket fuse box. Finally got lights working and left. Then received a call saying that we were in violation of contract because of the UHaul trailer and to return the truck immediately. Unloaded truck and went to the BHC Budget to return the truck in the morning. Was told by the owner of the BHC Budget that he would not take the truck back and to drive it to Colorado. Called customer service who finally got through to BHC Budget (after he originally refused to speak to BUDGET CUSTOMER SERVICE) and finally took the truck back (after being extremely rude). Budget is refusing to return any of our money and Budget BHC is now saying they didn't say to rent a UHaul and that they had a bigger truck to change with us but received no call from us regarding the problem. Why would we rent an additional trailer for more than the bigger truck would have cost? It makes no sense. Budget has the worst customer service and is the least professional company I have ever had the misfortune to deal with. I would give them negative stars if possible.

Avis Budget Group=*** Rental Vehicles

I worked for the *** Budget Group (Avis Rent a Car, Budget Car and Budget Truck) and can tell you it is a low budget operation. I actually worked in the claims department and can tell you Budget Trucks a heaps of trash. I've handled claims where the cab of the truck leaved (heavily) when it rained. Budget would put masking tape on it and consider it a permanent fix! They break down more often than not. I've had claims where the ramps o the rear of the truck actually collapsed and one gentleman broke his back. An engineer inspected the ramp and said "It was clearly wron out and damaged and anybody could recognize it. Yet, Avis Budget Group chose to ignore it because they'd have to spend a few bucks to ensure the safety of their customers. ABG refuses to invest in any new car carriers or tow dollys because the ones they have are paid off and every rental is clear profit for them. If you ever see a tow dolly, take a look at it. It's rusty and falling apart. Again, ABG doesn't care about safety of people, it's all about the money. I handled a claim where a car carrier left the dealer with only 3 wheels the 4th wasn't on the trailer. Another claim involved a car carrier, that had 4 wheels however, the lugs were loose on one of the wheels. While traveling down a highway, the wheel came off bouncedover the median and flew right through the windshield of an oncoming car! It sheared the roof in half. The female passenger had muliple facial fractures, multiple lacerations o her head, face and shoulders, a broken arm, collar bone etc..... This poor woman suffered severe injuries because ABG refuses to invest a *** dime into the repair of any of their equipment. I needed a rental van for a local move and REFUSED to rent from Budget Truck. I knew the condition of their equipment. i went to U-haul and received a brand new van with 200 miles on it. Still smelled new, was spotless and ran great. Budget Truck wanted to charge me 3 times more (with my *** employee discount) and the truck was a rust bucket. I would never trust a Avis or Budget vehicle. Go on Youtube and see the breakdowns and water leaks etc....The cargo areas leak too. Furtniture gets damaged, clothing , everything!! save yourself a lot of grief and go to U-haul

Do NOT use BUDGET TRUCK RENTALS!

Anyone considering a truck rental company should be very hesitant to use Budget. Other reviewers have mentioned overbooking, and I can confirm that this is a huge problem at Budget. Most importantly, everyone needs to know this: your reservation DOES NOT GUARANTEE A TRUCK, it only locks in a rate if they happen to have a truck for you! This sounds ridiculous, but it is their CORPORATE POLICY! This may be true at UHaul as well, but since Budget aggressively overbooks its trucks, you are much more likely with Budget to show up and find out that they have no truck for you. How they can run their business this way is beyond me - people showing up to rent a moving truck are typically on a tight schedule, right?!?! They did this to me a few months ago and I was left scrambling to find another truck at the last moment; not a pleasant experience. I would add an additional warning if you are renting a truck in New York City, as the shortage of trucks seems to be an especially big problem there. I will never use Budget again, and will tell this to anyone I know when they are renting a truck.

Budget Truck Rental

I'm so mad I don't even have the energy to type out my whole experience. All I'm going to say is what is the point in making a reservation 3 weeks in advance only to find out less than 24 hours before pickup that they don't have a truck for me... nor does any other location within 50 miles. This mistake on their part is possibly career ending for me. They claim the reservation system only guarentees you the price for that day and not the truck... what good is a price if you reserve past your stock levels? Budget Truck Rental is dead to me and I will do everything in my power to spread the word.

Budget Truck Rental is a scam

BEWARE: Budget Truck Rental is unethical, they will file false claim against you when you return your truck. I rented a truck last year and brought it back in working order - 6 months later I get a call from collections saying that I had damaged the truck by putting gas instead of diesel in it.

I showed proof that I put diesel in (gas station receipt) and they still want me to pay.

This company is shady, their customer service is horrible, and they are incredibly unethical. Stay as far away from this company as you can, what they are doing is illegal.

What a Scam Budget Truck is running. I went on line to get a quote for a 16 foot truck rented one way for a move out of state.

After entering all my information the website gives me a quote of $1337.05. According to the website there is also a 15% discount if I book in the month of September and to get the discount I have to enter the code 15DIS. I re-entered my information and entered the discount code. The price came up exactly the same.

Then I see a discount for a motorclub membership of 20%. I entered that code and the price still didn't change. Customer no-service told me the $1337 was already the discounted price. When I asked why I didn't ge the 15 or 20 percent discount off that price, they had no answer but just double speak.

If you call in, they quote you a higher price, but then if you balk, they say they can give you a better rate (just because they are being nice). What a scam!!

Budget Truck equals Scam!!! I made a reservation for a truck.

I reserved for my closest location, Jordan, MN. I made the reservation 28 days in advance. I even confirmed it a week before pick up time. It turned out that the Jordan, MN location is a residential NOT a Budget truck company.

The resident came out of the house screaming, saying that he is tired of people knocking asking for a truck. He has tried to get budget to delete him from their directory and they refuse. I called Budget trying to do everything on my end to get a truck at another location. Customer service was RUDE, UNHELPFUL, located in Mexico with little or no training.

I ended up renting from UHAUL with ZERO problems. Then Budget has the balls to charge me $50 fee for not picking up the truck. Now I'm currently fighting to get my $50 dollars back. This time I called Oklahoma - not Mexico, they are still clueless and a rude.

I hate Budget they are scammers, rude and made me cried because I was so upset for not having a truck to move, until UHAUL came to my rescue. UHAUL are my hereos.

I scheduled a Budget rental truck over a month ago prior to my move. I chose budget over U-Haul because of the price. What a mistake. Today is the day of what was supposed to be our move and around 8:00am I received a call from Budget saying that they did not have our truck. Now I have a job interview tomorrow in my new town and I will miss it because of Budgets mistake. So my family called U-Haul and they said they would be able to give us a truck today but we have to pay DOUBLE the U-Haul price because we did not have a reservation. I didn't choose U-Haul in the first place because it was too expensive!

BUDGET IS A SCAM! STAY FAR FAR AWAY. THIS COMPANY HAS BROKEN SO MANY LAWS AND NEEDS TO BE SHUT DOWN NOW!

(also Budget has the worst customer service imaginable.)

I AM EXTREMELY UNSATISFIED! >:(

I NEED help. Budget Truck and Car rentals from Vancouver Gilmore Street location is committing insurance fraud. There doesn’t seem anything I can do; can someone recommend a course of action I could take? I’ll explain my situation fully so you understand what happened.

On March 25th 2011 I rented a truck just after 5pm from Budget. I took it to my apartment complex and parked it in a large, obstruction free zone. I did my load, move, and unload that night. I returned the vehicle with ZERO incidents at 7:30 AM, just in front of the store, and dropped the keys off.

It was reported to me over TWO MONTHS later on May 30th by first a $336 charge on my VISA, a couple of days later I get a letter in the mail stating they found a dent. So what happened to the vehicle from my drop off time to a mysterious $336 charge on my VISA? This should have been reported to me BEFORE the truck was rented to anyone else, so I could have come and visibly seen what they were claiming.

I am shown one black and white photo where I can see no damage at all (I can barely see that it’s a picture of a truck). I challenged the quality of the photo saying I can’t see anything and Budget actually wrote me saying, “We have tried different ways to take the pictures with cameras, phones etc and the black berry seems to do a better job.” They also no longer have the picture on file, so I’ll never be able to see it in color (or a date stamp on it).

Budget’s ‘audit’ of damage process prior to pick up didn’t actual verify that area was dent free on initial inspection (upper cab area above the drivers side). It is important for the purpose of comparison to validate a dent free area vs. where they are claiming the damage currently. I looked at trim, tires and front hood area.

NOW, that I am trying to dispute this, they are threatening me…HELP ME PLEASE.

In regards to the repairs needed to the truck, Budget first told me, “We chose to have the dent fixed, rather than replace the panel which would have exceeded the $1000.00.” I guess they were saying that they did me a favor, BUT if a dent can be fixed, why would they consider replacing it?

I challenged this, saying I didn’t want any cost, fix or replaced, since I knew I didn’t cause the damage. This upset Budget, and they started to threaten me, they said, “The truck in question has not been fixed it will go to the manufacturer that built the box and if properly repaired the bill will be over $1000.00..So when we get the estimate I will be happy to send it to you.” And then their manager reiterated this by also saying, “To properly repair the vehicle back to the condition it was prior to your rental would cost well over $1,000 so for customer service reasons we decided to only bill you $336.00 and do a partial repair. In light of your concerns Budget will send the vehicle to the manufacturer and obtain a proper estimate and adjust your invoice.” So, Janine Potter, their Claims Manager is threatening me to charge me more…when I’m saying I shouldn’t be charged at all, this is their customer service? What’s a partial repair?

I am being attacked by this company, can someone please help me?? What rights do I have?

Needless to day, Budget is in bed with the devil (or they are the devil), and I will NEVER do business with them again. I hope all who reads this will do the same.

Budget Rental company & PHH Arval DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH these companies

My company was contracted with PHH Arval fleet services. We recieved their truck June 1st for repairs. We began repairs and contacted the supervisor of PHH and was given a P.O number for billing. We told the guy that there were 20 fault codes popping up that has to be corrected in order to get the truck running appropriately and that we needed a new P.O # to cover the additional costs. We were told that the number given to us would cover anything needed. We began repairs. Once we were complete with the job we told Budget and PHH the truck had to have the new computer programmed to the truck by international. They towed the truck and then called saying they did not approve any additional parts after a long conference call we concluded. Budget and PHH wanted the billing split down as to what they wanted to pay , they would remove the new parts and return them to us and pick up old parts. A month more went by I contacted the international dealer and was told they dropped the truck off on Aug 7 2010 programming was done and the truck drove off the lot on Aug 27th. When I contacted Budget and PHH I kept getting the run around and handed off to someone else each time. I finally was able to speak to one of the MANY supervisors with PHH (he absolutely refused to give me his last name)and he proceeded to tell me that they were only going to pay half of the amount due and that they would also not be returning the new parts or paying for the new parts that are on the truck. We are now in the process of having our attorney take care of this. BEWARE PHH ARVAL AND BUDGET TRUCK RENTAL COMPANIES look them up on the BBB they have poor poor ratings and also are all in bed together!!!! We right now are out approximately $8,000.00. If any other companies have had a simular situation please contact me I would love to hear about it E-Mail to sonyakn@***.com

I have done quite a bit of work for PHH, as well. They are sticklers for up front approval and will question any labor or part cost they feel excessive (haven't lost one, yet), but They have always paid.

I deal with more than a few lease companies and PHH is far from the worst. Extended warranty companies are another story...

Guest

I’ve done business with both of these companies on multiple occasions & never had any issues. You’re probably leaving out a very important part of the story, and I bet it goes something like this: you misdiagnosed the problem with the truck and just continued to randomly replace parts in an attempt to finally resolve the issue.

When the truck arrived at the International dealer to have the ECM programmed, it still had the same problem it did before you wasted $8,000 of their money trying to fix a problem that you were not qualified to address.

Once the dealer diagnosed what was actually wrong with the truck & fixed it correctly, it was obvious that you shouldn’t have been paid the amount of money you were seeking. Maybe your shop should just stick with oil changes and leave the repairs to a shop with qualified technicians.

TRIP FROM *** and all due to Budget

I've warned you - never rent from Budget! I rented a 16' truck and a tow dolly from Budget and the truck broke down so we were stranded in Wyoming for the night, then the trailer broke down the next day so we ended up dropping the trailer and drove the truck and my car all the way to Seattle. Worst customer service I have ever experienced. They wanted us to drive over 100 miles out of our way to pick up a new trailer, and we said no way. I was on hold for about 6 hrs. total waiting for help. Awful experience!

Budget Truck Roadside & Cust. Svc. Worthless

On a move from Salt Lake City to Houston, our Budget Truck broke down outside of Shiprock NM. We waited 4 hours in the middle of the desert for Roadside to send us a technician. We finally made it to a hotel that night but then had to wait 2 days for a new truck. The next truck had a bad alternator and broke down around noon the next day. Well, it didn't exactly break down, but it lost power and barely made it to a repair shop. The shop was ill-equipped to help us, as Budget had not done their research prior to sending us there. The guy charged our battery and we barely made it to Albuquerque NM where a full shop replaced the alternator. We lost another day. The fixed alternator was all we needed to make it to Houston.

After a few days, I called Budget to see about a refund and a reimbursement for the 2.5 days of lost travel. They said the rental agreement was still open, so we couldn't do anything. After many more calls and weeks later, they finally got the agreement closed out. I fought with them about reimbursement for expenses incurred while we were stranded. It took sending a written letter to Customer Service, copied to the Executive Offices of the Avis Budget group before I got a satisfactory response.

I'm satisfied that the Executive Office was able to finally help me, but still very perturbed that their incompetent customer service would do very little to help me. Needless to say, my next truck rental will be Uhaul.

Budget truck rental

Whatever you do, don't rent a moving truck from budget!!! My husband reserved a truck four days in advance with a credit card and monday morning we arrived to find no truck available. They failed to mention that making a reservation is totally pointless and the national call ctr won't do anything to correct the problem;and to add insult to injury, they keep your money if you cancel! Now we are to wait all day for someone to call with an available truck. Who knows where we'll have to go to pick it up. Buyer beware, don't do business with these guys!

They're deliberately over-booking. When the economy slowed, they sold off most of their fleet and severely restricted the maintenance budgets.

The few trucks they still have are very poorly maintained and most should be considered hazardous. They are still making a pretty good profit by charging customers for late cancellations, so the overbooking practices continue unabated.

There should be a class action lawsuit against these ***-artists. :(

Guest

The same thing happened to me last October. Reserved a truck a month in advance and then they called me a day before I was supposed to move and told me there was no truck, and that I didn't really "reserve" it. To top it off they charged me a cancel fee as well.

Terrible company which I will never do business with again.

Guest

Reserved a 10' truck and told one was available. When I arrived the person behind the desk said that they haven't had a 10' truck in over 4 months.

They will lie to you, and when they quote a price it is without any taxes, which are many. Beware!

Guest

I totally AGREE! We rented our truck online 2 weeks ahead of time.

They called us and told us less then 24 hours before we were to pick up our truck they didnt have one.

They cancelled our reservation and told us we were S.O.L. Nice way to do business Huh?

Guest

We reserved a truck from Budget Truck Rental in Athens, GA for August 28 which was to be dropped off in Tucker, GA. When we arrived there was no truck available.

After complaining they finally said they located a truck in Conyers, GA, more than an hours drive, and we could go pick that up. We protested and said that was their responsibility. After much fussing the "management" consented to sending someone to bring the truck to Athens. This all cost more than 2 hours.

Meanwhile the man we were supposed to pick up furniture from gave up on us and when to lunch. When he finally returned we had lost two more hours. After unloading we took the truck to the Tucker location only to find the lot closed with metal bars and no place to park the truck. We took the truck home and called early the next morning to find the Tucker location closed on Sunday.

We then made numerous calls to Budger "customer service" to find a nearby location to take the truck. After serveral calls and frustrating conversations we located an open location to take the truck to but we were informed we had to pay an additional fee to drop at another location even though it was not our fault.

Budget has lost this customer and family forever.
