...where to begin. To start the pick up location was a little Indian gas station where I could barely understand the employees. The only thing I could understand was when the guy kept saying "it's a brand new truck only 33,000 miles" over and over. I picked up my truck in South Carolina on August 13. We were moving to Oklahoma so we had the truck from that Wednesday until the next Monday. We the truck over a two day period and made it into Oklahoma when the transmission on the truck blew, apparently beyond repair. So at 9pm Saturday night we called the road side auto met service and told them we were stuck broken down in the middle of the road with a truck and trailer. The guy Jim told me he would call us back in a few minutes with an estimate on how long it will be. Well at 10:30pm I called back because no one had called me yet and jim said to me, "I haven't been able to contact anyone to come get you yet. But if people like you didn't keep calling all night then I could get my job done." So then after waiting another 3 hours finally someone showed to tow the truck out of the middle of the street. And the mechanic shortly after showed to only look at it for one minute and say the transmission was blown and it can't be fixed. So we had to leave our truck in a parking lot over night and the next day they sent someone to tow the truck to my storage location so I could unload the truck. My storage location refused to let them leave a broken down truck on their property so I had to call Customer service again. When I called an explained this to them they said there was nothing they could do for me to just have to tow guy put the truck down across the street and to carry my things over to the storage unit. So then I proceeded to tell him I was absolutely sick of talking to him and if that's what he wanted me to do then he could bring his happy *** over and move my *** across the street for me or to let me speak to a manager. And instead of letting me talk to a manager he hung up on me. So after an hour and a half on the phone with them, finally we came to the conclusion to allow the tow truck to stay at uhaul storage with the broken down truck while we unloaded it in case it needed to be moved. So finally I was able to get all of my things off of the truck. I was told I had to be the one to contact the drop off location and let them know that it wouldn't be coming because of it breaking down. So for three days multiple times a day I tried to call them but could never get an answer. So I called customer service again to let them know that I couldn't get ahold if them and that I needed them to close our account so I could get the compensation I was promised over and over again. The guy assured me that he would get it closed and for me not to worry about it any longer and to call back in about a week to get my compensation. So I called back and guess what? The *** account still wasn't closed. So after talking to yet another customer service representative she apologized and promised to hand this over to the supervisor which I feel like should have been done in the beginning. So I finally got a call today and they said the best they can do for all of my troubles is to refund me $125 of my $775 truck rental, not to mention gas money when the truck only gets 6 miles a gallon... Also I had a trailer from budget to tow my SUV which they ask the make and model to get a "proper fitting" trailer. Anyways, when we went to take my car off the trailer we notice it was covered in transmission fluid which has stained the plastic handles and other parts on my car. And my rear bumper was completely torn up in the move. The trailer apparently wasn't a good fit and it rubbed the rear bumper down so now there is missing paint and scratches all over it. So I still have forms to fill out for claims and time I do not want to waste dealing with this company. Tell me would this have been worth your money? Most definitely a ton of money and time wasted. Don't waste yours!

Budget Truck stranded. Hope I get reimbursement for money spent and time lost.

Thank you for your post. I am also in a similar situation- yesterday, budget truck transmission blew only 2-3 hours in, in the afternoon.

Waited 2 hrs for technician to tell me I needed to find a hotel ($70+, not to mention already having a hotel reservation and not being able to cancel). Hours ago this morning they call and tell me they'll keep me 'updated' to switch trucks. Have to check out at 11am and who knows how long I'll be waiting. Still got 500 miles to go...

Oofta meda..

As I'm typing, I am told another truck will be here in about 2 1/2 hours. Then we'll have to haul everything into the new truck.

(Sigh). The customer assistance people were nice and friendly, but I am worried about the reimbursement most of all.

Thanks for the letter tip.

Failure to Provide Service

On Feb 6 2015 I reserved a 10 foot truck for Feb 22. The Budget office called on Feb 20 and told me they didn't have a 10 foot available but offered a 16 foot. I accepted. I arrived at the Budget office at 9:10 am on the 22nd to pick up the truck. The office was closed and the Citgo manager told me I couldn't get the truck. He said no trucks were leaving today. I had traveled 35 miles to get to this place. No forewarning, no apologies. I will never use Budget again. U-Haul has my business.

Promised Truck Not Available, Last Minute Notification

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I made an online reservation on October 26 for a one-way rental the following Saturday. Everything was confirmed; I printed out the reservation. On Thursday at work I was told that someone from Budget had called for me on Tuesday while I was out. There was no voice-mail message, nor an e-mail. I contacted the local pick-up office and was told rudely that no trucks were available and that I should call Budget's reservation number. I did this, and was assured that everything would be fine, that a truck would be found for me. I called the local pickup office again, and was told that they were not responsible; that it was up to Budget headquarters to get a truck to their office. I called the reservation number again, and was again assured that a truck would be found and that my reservation would be honored. On Friday morning I received another message at work that no truck would be available. I called reservations again and was asked if I could pick up the truck at an alternate location or use a different size truck. I said yes, within reason and gave some parameters on truck size and how much farther I could go to pick up a truck, but that I was not going to pay for a lot of extra miles. I was promised a call back within two hours to let me know what options were available. No call back ever came; when I contacted reservations once more (and was forwarded to customer service) I was told they would send e-mails and leave messages to their manager "upping the priority" I told them that did not address my problem of needing a truck THE NEXT DAY. Fortunately, I was able to make a reservation for a U-Haul truck with essentially the same terms, and got a confirmation from the pickup office within half an hour. I cancelled the Budget reservation and let them know they had permanently lost a customer. *Budget NEVER called back when they said they would *Budget promised things they clearly had no intention of delivering *If Budget had contacted me earlier (voice mail or e-mail) with honest communication to notify me no truck was available, I could have made other arrangements while there was still time. I would have still had a positive impression of the company and been willing to rent from them in the future. As it is now --- NEVER! *Local office staff was rude and clearly did not care about assisting a customer. They treated me as though even talking to me was a waste of their time, and they just wanted me to go away. (They got their wish).

Budget Truck Rental- not going the extra mile.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
We thought we had a truck rented from Budget in Delaware and when we got there ,no truck. We call customer service about the problem and they told us they found one in New Jersey. They said it was 20 miles away. Across the Delaware Bay by ferry. Not our problem and they should have corrected the problem. Not good business. I hope that all Budget customers don't get this kind of "help". When we called the rental place they said the online site didn't follow through to make sure they had a rental on hand. Hope they provide better training so the paying customers doesn't suffer.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE/ THEY LIE ABOUT QUOTED RATES!

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE/ THEY LIE ABOUT QUOTED RATES! Called reservations and the representative gave me a rate of $24.96 plus .79 cents per mile. Thought the rate was great and booked it. (Never got an e-mail confirmation or was not able to check the reservation online with the confirmation given to me) If the rate had been higher, I would have gone somewhere else. Picked up the truck, the clerk did not go over the rates with me but I signed the paper in a rush because we had been there for over 20 minutes just to pick up the truck, it was raining and it was moving day. Dropped off the truck during closed hours. Called the next day to find out the final charge, they had charged me $29.97 per day plus .99 cents per mile. For some MAGICAL reason they couldn't find that I was quoted a lower rate. Awful service! Go to U-Haul! !

Left in a lurch by Budget Truck Rental

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
6-20-14 I reserved a Budget 16’ truck for 7-12-14 (three weeks ahead)-- the confirmation message was “Congratulations! You’re Finished” 7-11-14 Voicemail left at 5:07 p.m. and received about 5:30 p.m. (the night before the move) from the vendor essentially saying: “We don’t have a truck for you; you can call the 800# to see if they can find a truck.” I had people arriving 9:00 a.m. the next morning to move me but now no truck. 7-11-14 I immediately called the Budget #800 number. I agreed to broaden the search to other locations and other truck sizes. Budget's representative told me that he would forward the request and I would hear from someone within two (2) hours. 7-12-14 More than 12 hours later at 8:30 a.m. (1/2 hour before the movers arrived) I received a call that a truck was located at another location. I declined because I had located a truck from another company (U-Haul, which was exceptionally helpful and professional). A reserved truck should be guaranteed unless there is an extenuating circumstance like an accident or break down. I can only assume this is not the case in my situation because no information was shared. And when a truck does become unavailable, a replacement should be found within the 2 hour timeframe promised. My experience with Budget Truck Rental was so frustrating and upsetting that I will do everything possible to avoid ever using Budget Rental again.

BUDGET LIARS HAD NO TRUCKS AVAILABLE

I RESERVED A TRUCK AND IMMEDIATELY DROVE TO THE LOCATION AND THEY HAD NO TRUCKS AVAILABLE! THE LOCATION SAID THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. I WAITED ON HOLD, GAVE MY CREDIT CARD INFO, GOT A CONFIRMATION NUMBER, AND DROVE ONE HOUR FOR NOTHING. DON'T LET THESE LIARS DO IT TO YOU! WHEN I CALLED THE 800 NUMBER TO FIND OUT WHY THEY LIED, THE REPRESENTATIVE WAS NASTY AND AGGRESSIVE. I DEMANDED THAT I BE TRANSFERRED TO HER SUPERVISOR OR THE LEGAL DEPARTMENT. SHE TOOK MY NUMBER AND SAID THAT HER SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL ME BACK, BUT THAT WAS ANOTHER LIE.

Added Towing charge. $525 for 4 miles!!!

I live in Chino Valley, AZ. My sister lives in Decatur, IL. In this economy, unfortunately, she had no job, no income and while her house was paid for, she lost her home because her real estate taxes weren't paid and someone bought the debt and got her home. She was evicted. I rented a Budget moving truck for her over the phone so she could take her clothing, memories, bedding etc. No furniture. On Monday morning she was escorted out of her home by police. The keys to the truck were misplaced. As she had to be off the property Budget Rentals roadside assistance was contacted, for them to tow the truck. When the tow truck arrived and they took the small truck back to the rental yard, less than FOUR miles away. On July 31st, I received a bill for $525.00 for the tow. The letter however refers to damages. They suggested I contact my insurance company to cover the loss or collision damage reimbursement? I called about the discrepancy (there was no collision or damage) and was told that's just the way it was written up? I told Kimberlene Murphy, who works at Budget Vehicle Damage Claims Department that I felt $525.00 was outrageous for this towing less than FOUR miles and that I felt they were fraudulently billing me for an accident, THAT NEVER OCCURRED. She said she would call the towing company to ask about why it was so much. She said I couldn't call, as they would not talk to me since they were the tow company's customer. Of course nobody ever responded to her messages per our phone conversation. We found out that Budget had dispatched a tow truck from Champagne, IL, some 40+ miles away, rather than using a local tow company in Decatur, IL. (Of which there are MANY.) I wrote to the Legal Department of Budget, expressing my displeasure and have not had a response to that letter that was received September 8th per certified mail receipt. I spoke with Kimberlene again, after receiving a letter saying that I needed to provide my insurance information or my credit care information to pay and this is referred to as a follow-up letter regarding the "damages" sustained to our truck rental unit, during your rental experience, and told her I had contacted their legal department. I asked if there was anything I could do to avoid this claim from going to collection and she said, "No, just pay it". We have offered to settle by paying $150 for the towing, MORE than any 4 mile tow should cost. They are now turning it over to a collection agency, per their threat! Plain and simple, this is a scam. They can sue if they chose, but we WILL NOT pay them this OUTRAGEOUS fee! Michele J. Durnil

Budget truck rental

I reserved a 10 foot truck 10 days in advance. I was given a 16 foot truck with 167k miles on it. I paid $78 insurance to cover the truck. (U-haul charged me $17 two weeks prior on a truck with 400 miles on it.) Two hours into the trip the truck lost power in the middle lane of an interstate highway. I was able to get the truck pulled over just before an exit. A mechanic arrived in one hour. He said he would have to replace the fuel pump. I called customer service and told them that I did not feel the truck was safe. They refused to replace the truck. The mechanic showed up 3.5 hours later with the wrong pump. He came by 1.5 hours later and fixed the truck. I sat on the side of an interstate highway with my wife and daughter for over six hours. I rented the truck for three days but returned it the next morning. The rep in the town I brought it to said she was taking it out of service because she would not want to rent it to anyone. I called customer service for a refund and was told the best they could do was to refund 20% of the rental cost. I am challenging the charge. I went with Budget because of their reputation and the fact that the pickup location was 1 mile from a budget dealer. I will never do business with this company again.

Budget incapable of supplying trucks

I wish I had read these reviews before trusting Budget. Don't make the same mistake. I made a reservation on Aug 29th for a oneway rental of a 10' truck for Sept 2nd, to return Sept 3rd. Reservations threatened me with a $50 cancellation fee if I didn't show. I went to Sligo Ave office at 8am. No truck. Manager said he would call me in 15 mins. He never called. I called "Customer Care" 4 times - both before and after their promised "2 hr window" for locating a truck. No one ever called me back even after my request was (supposedly) accelerated to management. It is now 12:44pm and I cancelled my reservation. No calls, no truck, no nothing. Do not trust Budget! They can't deliver.

Rent Truck from Philadelphia area to Washington DC

I have rent Budget truck from Willow Grove PA to move to Washington DC. I got truck and was told it is just passed inspections. Truck breaks feel strange after I used them second time. When I got home to load truck it was no breaks at all. Called Budget and in 3 hours got road assistance mechanics who check breaks found they leaking and told me he cant help. He called his super and asked me to drive truck back. I told them they out of their mind if they think I will drive truck without breaks. after couple of hours of argument Budget representative told me they will tow the truck and I can contact somebody tomorrow morning and I maybe can rent another one in a morning at 8:00 AM central time. I asked to cancel everything, but was told I need to call Monday because they can't do it on weekend. Called Monday and was told by customer service it is happen they are sorry but they have no idea where is truck, when they will find where their tow company tow the truck they will start process to return my money and it will take 3 business days, to do it. By the way I went to uhaul truck rental on Saturday 7:00 AM EST and got practically new truck in 10 mins without any issues .

Never trust them!

Reserved two 24' trucks to move on 7/18/14 for pickup on 8/2/14 at 7:30 a.m. Confirmed again with local Orlando agent "Stephanie" at Budget of West Colonial, Orlando, FL., on 7/24/14. On 8/1/14 at 2:30 p.m. Stephanie called to tell us that they had NO trucks for Saturday, even though we had them reserved for over two weeks & had confirmed that reservation with them a week ago. This done at the time we were completing packing up the house & getting ready to load anything the next morning. She stated she was sorry but there was nothing she could do. I contacted their manager, Josh Osbourne, who said they would try & find the trucks. Meanwhile, no longer able to rely on whatever Budget said, I contacted Hertz & got two 26' trucks for the next morning. At 5:45 p.m. Josh Osbourne, with Budget called & said they found two trucks & would have them ready for Saturday morning. I advised him & no longer trusted Budget & had found other trucks. To add insult to injury, Budget then charged my credit card $100 ($50 for each truck), as a "No-Show". Nice Company! They are dishonest, unreliable & completely fraudulent in their dealings with customers. Never Trust Them!
